Who must send a tax return

February 16, 2023December 14, 2023
Who must send a tax return

Everybody who is registered as Self-Employed or applied for a UTR, or is in a business partnership, must submit a tax return.

You will not usually need to submit a tax return if your only income is from your wages or pension and you have paid tax by PAYE.

You may need to submit a Self-Assessment tax return if you have received any untaxed income, such as:

  • money from renting out a property
  • tips and commission
  • income from savings, investments and dividends
  • foreign income

You can also submit tax return to claim Income Tax reliefs such as tax-free childcare or maternity allowance.
